Zone Diet Snacks Are the Fun Part
If you are on the Zone Diet you know part of the ongoing metabolic program is to maintain hormonal balance with a steady diet throughout the day. The three standard meals breakfast, lunch and dinner are included, but you also know there are a couple of snacks allowed during the day.
When should I snack?
The recommended time for the snack portions are mid-afternoon and before bed. The mid-afternoon snack is provided to give you an extra energy boost during the busiest part of your day. The bedtime snack is to provide your body with a little energy while you sleep, and keep you hormonal levels balanced until arising for the breakfast meal.
If you subscribe to the block unit method of Zone Diet eating you are allowed 1 block per snack. The blocks are one choice form the prescribed food groups of carbohydrates, proteins or fats. The snacks are not complete meals but just one meal component. Also a mid-afternoon snack may consist of a piece of fruit or a small portion of nuts.
Before bed a small sweet treat may be allowed, such as a small portion of ice cream, or a small serving of a chocolate dessert. Zone diet snacks at bedtime can also be other protein, low glycemic carbohydrates or monosaturated fat foods.
For ready-made snacks, the Zone Labs marketing branch of the Zone Diet program sells shakes and nutrition bars that curb hunger and are formulated for Zone Diet use. These are convenient and you can be sure they are suitable for your Zone Diet snacks program.
